Rounds Riverina

We recently hosted the Riverina Rural Health Road Trip.

This trip has been a long time in the making and I can’t quite describe how powerful it was for our students and ROUNDS committee. In particular, and especially for me, the Crookwell component of the trip was exceptionally special. The impact we had at the high school, the articulate Q and A you contributed so incredibly to Georgia, the “egg-cellent” BBQ-ing and ongoing support Ric and WOW Lisa the most genuine, compassionate and inspiring talk about your career and journey into rural practice – I really cannot thank the Opie family enough! While chatting to students throughout the trip, Crookwell and Red Robin was a real highlight with a lot of students saying, “OMG I just want to be Dr Opie”!

A lot of key learnings have come from organising and delivering the Riverina Rural Health Road Trip. With this, a lot of very special moments and memories have also been created. On the bus trip home, a first year stood up, thanked the second year’s and offered for each student to provide their favourite moment from the trip. This was not only reflective and very kind for us to hear but also a true indication of the genuine interest and appreciation our first-year students have for rural health, the opportunity Notre Dame provides in having rural opportunities like the Wagga Wagga Clinical School, and their sincere gratitude for the hard work that occurred behind the scenes from all involved including you and your team.
