October is Mental Health Awareness Month

Mental Health Month is celebrated each year in the month of October in NSW. This month encourages all of us to think about our mental health and wellbeing, regardless of whether we may have a lived experience of mental illness or not. It also gives us the opportunity to understand the importance of good mental health in our everyday lives and encourages help seeking behaviours when needed.
Ways you can get involved:

There are events hosted online and all over NSW throughout the month: https://mentalhealthmonth.wayahead.org.au/events/
Thrive GP will be circulating resources throughout the month to help raise awareness and educate our patients/community

An alternative to ED in Goulburn/Surrounds

The Goulburn Urgent Care Service is now open 365 days a year, from 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday and 10am to 7pm Saturday and Sunday. It will be staffed by General Practitioners and nurses with important diagnostic services close by including radiology and pathology.
Care for illness or injury that is not an emergency include:

  • Minor cuts
  • Sprains or suspected fractures
  • Sports injuries
  • Minor infections
  • Urinary tract infections (UTI’s)
  • Minor burns
  • rashes
  • Insect or animal bites
  • Cough, cold or flu
  • Mild asthma attacks
  • earaches
  • Fevers or chills

Patients should call Healthdirect on 1800 022 222 to access the service. A registered nurse will assess the patient’s condition and then discuss with the patient the best place for their care needs. This may include an appointment at the Goulburn Urgent Care Service, a telehealth appointment with the virtualKIDS or virtualGP services or escalating their care to other services like NSW Ambulance if required.

Cervical Screening = Prevention

If you are a woman or person with a cervix, you should do cervical screening every 5 years from 25.

Our practice is offering Cervical Screening self-testing kits. A self-collected sample is just as safe, effective and accurate as a sample collected by a doctor or nurse. HPV can be found just as well in samples from either your cervix or your vagina.
Contact us to make a booking with your GP.
